Cruel Summer

Well, it isn't really -- but here I am!
Ever since school ended I've been busy, busy, busy! Not only am I taking 16 credits worth of summer classes (two of those are finished and three will be done next week, leaving one lonely little class), but I am also doing a show!

Ready? Set? SHAMELESS PROMOTING!!

The show is called Awesome 80s Prom by Ken Davenport. I am portraying the character of "Molly Parker," the freshman who desperately wants to be on the varsity cheerleading team, but is being bogged down by her geeky twin brother, Lloyd. The show is mostly in freeform format and only select scenes are scripted. We had a great opening last Friday, the 18th and we hope to have more great shows! The dates are: July 9th and 23rd and August 13th and 27th at Jimmy the Greek's in Old Orchard Beach. (Right off of Route 1 South coming from Portland)

Anyway, the summer is still young and I still have so much to do!
As a final note I am going to state that I have conquered (part of) one of my fears: heights.
Roller coasters? Bring 'em on!
Have a safe and fabulous summer!
Cheers,
M.E.J.

Summer Comes and Winter must Fly...

Yes, that is a line from Inook and the Sun. I can't help, but do a little shameless self promoting.
Speaking of which this is the closing weekend for the show! So if you want to go get your tickets soon! The shows on Friday and Saturday are at 7:30 and on Sunday there is a matinee at 2:00.
I hope people can come!

Anyway, since I'm doing some self promoting I may as well give some updates!

First of all I'm currently interning at the Fenix Theatre Company (I also may or may not be posting this on the job). I'm helping with fundraising, which admittedly not my thing, but alas her I am. I'm not getting credit for it school-wise, but the experience is definitely resume worthy. Along with this internship I will be taking 16 credits this summer so I can graduate in Fall of 2011. This shall be interesting...

Also, speaking of resume worthy I was cast as Julia's understudy in USM's fall production of Ken Ludwig's Lend Me a Tenor. Yes, yes it's not an official main stage role, but we get an understudy performance and it IS resume worthy which makes me quite happy.

I will also be doing Dramaturgy for the Student Performing Artists' (SPA) show, Bug by Tracy Letts (Directed by my very good friend, Desiray Roy) and the department show Airswimming by Charlotte Jones (Directed by an awesome professor, Meghan Brodie). I also plan on auditioning for Bug so I shall be a very busy lady come September. On top of all this I am now an Officer for SPA (Student Representative). This means I will be going to faculty meetings and basically being the voice of the students.

This is all for now, but I shall continue updating.
Stay strong, fellows.

Cheers,
M.E.J.

Chaos in the Theatre!

It's been quite busy for me ever since I got cast in "Inook." I've had very long hours and have since gotten three extra roles in the show. Life is crazy, but don't fret; I haven't forgotten to update. More will come as the show draws closer.
Cheers,

Call Backs and Casting

It is a happy day indeed!
I recently auditioned for the spring show at USM, "Inook and the Sun" directed by Dr. Assunta Kent. The results involve the following story:

The audition went well. I left happy and feeling fairly confident.
The next night I was sticking around the lobby waiting for callbacks to be posted. Low and behold I got called in to read a part. I was surprised because I wasn't there to audition, but, gladly I went in, read, danced a bit, and left.
The next day I got an official call back. I was very excited by this point and my confidence level was getting higher. The callbacks took nearly four hours. Everyone left tired and cranky, hoping that they would get a part.
Today I went to school to check the results and....I'm in!!
I got the part I wanted: The Spirit of the Dream. That is the one that I felt mostly comfortable with when cold reading. She's an omniscient spirit who's coming foreshadows Inook's father's death. It's pretty intense, I must say.
It's going to be a good week, guys: ACTF and getting in a show. Ah! I'm so excited. I'll post another blog next week when I'm at ACTF and such.
Cheers!

A New Semester Begins!

Top o' the semester to you all!
Now this is going to be a ridiculously busy spring, I'm telling you! I'm taking 18 credits; plus I have several auditions coming up and other projects on top of those. I'm putting myself on a plan to graduate early and so far it's working out nicely. HOPEFULLY it all will work out in my favor. I have seven classes that I picked out for Summer Session already and I have the next year planned out...hopefully it will work the way I plan.
Now, I'm telling you all this because it means that I won't have a lot of time to concentrate on things such as blogging as much as I'd like to.
I shall keep you informed, however if I'm involved in shows and progress on my projects.
To all my readers have a happy semester and more updates will come soon.
Cheers!

The Final Countdown

Today is the last day of the decade/year. And what a decade/year it has been.
For this entry I just want to convey a message or two:

I've had so many new experiences, made so many new friends, and learned so many new things.
Vague, yes, but I don't have time to sit here and recount every event...that may take the rest of the next decade.
But to all my readers: This is the decade that changed everything. So I say let's make this next one count; let's make the next ten years unforgettable.
Happy New Year,
M.E.J.

Fa la la la la!

'Tis the season yet again!

With the holidays in progress, (Chanukah has already started and Christmas is on it's way), I'm working my fingers to the bone making gifts for people. I recently received a trash bag filled with yarn as a gift and now it's almost gone! I'm also in the process of making an afghan in between small projects like hats, scarves, etc. so I'm keeping quite busy.

Another update that doesn't have much to do with crocheting (whoa!) is that I'm currently playing the role of Miss Sheilds in the classic tale, "A Christmas Story" at the Schoolhouse Arts Center in Standish, ME. There's only one weekend left and that means only three chances to get tickets! They are $14 for general admission and $12 for students and seniors. It's a hilarious show that will also give you a reminiscent feeling when you think about your own past Christmases.
Oh, and for the record: I get some of my best crocheting done in between scenes (I work very fast when I'm nervous) so don't forget to tell me what you want for the holidays!

I will try to give another update before Christmas, but if not I hope everyone has a safe, happy, healthy, and over-stuffed holiday vacation.

Cheers,
M.E.J.

Sharing Harmonic Energy

I've been meditating a lot lately...and I've realized that it makes life a lot easier to just relax.
I've also realized that pretending to relax by putting pressure on yourself to relax is...well, unrelaxing.
All I need is my hook, yarn, and a pattern in my head to relax.

Speaking of hooks, yarn, and patterns I'm still building up an inventory of things to make. Thanksgiving is next week and you know what that means: Black Friday is the next day!! (Insert suspenseful music here)

But, seriously the holiday season is upon us! It tends to sneak up like that. Also, since I'm feeling so balanced and nice I'm trimming the edges of my prices if you order a set (Hat and scarf, hand warmers and hat, neck warmer and hand warmers, etc.) I also make trades.
Anyway, if I don't post again before Thanksgiving I hope everyone has a wonderful and fattening holiday!

Cheers,
M.E.J.
